Community-Based Tree Plantation and Protective Fence Installation

The Community-Based Tree Plantation and Protective Fence Installation project was implemented in Keshm District of Badakhshan Province by ROAD as a self-funded environment and natural resource management initiative. The project was designed to promote community-level environmental protection, improve local green spaces, and support the sustainable management of natural resources through tree plantation and protection measures. Under the project, approximately 1,500 m² of land was covered through tree plantation and associated protective measures, directly benefiting 18 households. The intervention aimed to increase vegetation coverage, protect newly planted trees, and encourage local communities to participate in the conservation and improvement of their surrounding environment. Project activities included preparation of the targeted plantation area, planting of suitable trees, installation of protective fencing around the plantation site, and community participation in the protection and maintenance of the planted area. The protective fence was established to reduce damage to young trees and improve their chances of successful establishment and long-term growth. The project was implemented from 4 April 2015 to 6 December 2015, with a reported project value of 1,880. As a self-funded initiative, the project demonstrated ROAD's commitment to supporting practical, community-based environmental activities and promoting responsible management of local natural resources. Overall, the project contributed to improving approximately 1,500 m² of land through tree plantation and protective fencing while directly supporting 18 households in Keshm District, Badakhshan Province.
